Product Overview
The HY5WS-17/50DL-TB Plug-in & Removable Dropout Surge Arrester is designed for 10 kV distribution systems and features a modified zinc-oxide arrester mounted on a dropout fuse mechanism. It allows inspection, maintenance, and replacement without power shutdown using an insulated operating rod, ensuring uninterrupted line operation. This makes it ideal for telecommunications, airports, railway stations, hospitals, and busy commercial districts where power outages are not acceptable.
Equipped with a thermal-explosion disconnector, the dropout arrester addresses the common issue of undetectable faults when lightning strikes the arrester without causing visible damage. During an abnormal fault, the mechanism activates using power-frequency short-circuit current, causing the arrester elements to drop out of service, preventing accident escalation and simplifying maintenance. Its other performance characteristics are consistent with standard distribution-type surge arresters.

Installation & Usage Instructions
Pre-installation Check
Ensure proper tightness between the arrester elements and the dropout mechanism for reliable contact and smooth operation.
Wiring
The arrester can be serviced without a power shutdown.
Use an insulated operating rod to engage the hook on the arrester unit for easy replacement, similar to replacing a dropout fuse.
Key Advantages
Uninterrupted Operation: Maintenance or replacement can be performed without de-energizing the line.
Fault Visibility: Dropout mechanism signals arrester failure even if no visible damage occurs.
Easy Maintenance: Plug-in design simplifies handling for technicians.
Fast Response: Thermal-explosion disconnector provides rapid, reliable operation.
High Reliability & Safety: Meets distribution-type arrester standards while reducing operational risks.
